Haha I started doing this last time we went flying. She does a lot better from the left side and it's easier for her to see the instruments too.

Re: Average time to solo

I have been doing that with Jessica for a couple years now. She can basically fly now but does not have any certificate and has no desire to go alone. I dont think Stacey will be going without you either so just go get the BW's already...I think she even wants them.

Re: Average time to solo

Took me over 20 hours. I'm 50, was flying probably once a week, and it really involved putting it all together enough to be able to fly and flare for the landing. My instructor told me after I finally greased a landing "3 in a row like that and you can solo". The obstacles were setting up a good approach and then learning how to correct any deviation from that.

If she's already flying except for take off and landing it should take way less time. I think the challenge is learning to do more than one thing at a time without crashing, and that just takes some time on the controls. If she's adjusting power settings and attitude while flying with you she'll be way ahead of someone who can just fly a plane straight and level.

Re: Average time to solo

Seems like I was in that 20 range but got my private at 43 or something. I don't remember any pressure, I was learning and got along with the instructor. I think a lot of students bail at the solo point, I forgot the stat but it was a high percentage.
