Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

One of the Beavers I flew oh so many years ago still had a shotgun starter.....disabled, of course. It would have been fun to give it a try sometime.

A fun link, with lots of good pics.

Brought to you from the land where warm beer rules the day... Actually that contraption looks more relieable than anything built Lucas...

Re: Aviation History-First North American Hucks start in 70y

Around 1960, give or take a couple of years, a pilot came to town with a B18 outfitted for spraying. He either had a starter or a battery problem so he started one engine by wrapping a rope around the prop hub and pulling the rope with a jeep. It did start, but I've always thought over the years, what if the rope somehow didn't release from the hub as the planes engine started? Any way, good post, I enjoyed the pictures.

That's pretty cool! I've been around aviation quite a while, and I had never heard of this Hucks starter. Thanks for posting.

That was a great link, I've seen one or two of the old photos before, but never the full story. Thanks!

A partner at our airstrip use to own a Gannet with a Cartridge start, a twin engine contra-rotating, turbo prop. Start one engine & then adjust 2nd prop pitch out of feather to windmill start the other one. Crazy British engineers!!
