B-36 Flight Engineer Station

One generation built that awesome machine and managed all of its systems and complexities. Their successors figures out how to create an interactive 360 degree stitched photo of the cockpit and put it on the internet.

That's awesome. Did you notice that there are two seats there?

Engineer to pilot:
"Ok, I'm going to start my instrument scan......I'll get back to you in twenty minutes once completed........"

I could not find the wooden box for the Cassens & Plath sexton or the HO 249 sight reduction tables?

Sextant port but no Nav table...what's up with that? Same sextant mount we have in the C130H3 built in the 90's. Must have had a bunch left over laying around in bench stock.

I thought that was the "bubble" ( artificial horizon ) sexton port!

I really like that photo. It isn't just A seat for A flight engineer, it is TWO seats for TWO flight engineers...the first true intercontinental bomber.

Those old cold war bombers always remind me of the great dark comedy "Dr Strangelove" and the thriller "Fail Safe". We came pretty close to the brink several times during that era. Mad men running the world.
