Back in the saddle

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Back in the saddle

Been a while since I posted. Actually until recently hadn't even lurked much. Nearly two years ago I broke my neck in a fitness related accident. It was pretty serious. Partial C4 (means I'm not totally paralyzed, but I've got nerve damage in a place where if it had been complete, I would be totally paralyzed). It took many months of rehab, but I can now walk and do most things I could in the past. But it did take me a while to even decide that I wanted to fly again.
Fast forward to this fall, and some good weather, I dusted off the Rebel and with a pilot friend, took to the skies again. Man it was fun and I now have the flying bug again. Here are some pics.

Rolling HUI out of the hangar for the first time in a couple of seasons.

Most of the area around our home base is field after field of grain crops and not very much like back country flying, but go 70 mi ENE of Winnipeg you get into a nearly endless area of lakes and boreal forest.

After some successful fishing on Saddle Lake, we flew over to a wonderful beach on George lake for a shore lunch of walleye, yum.

Happy to be back in the saddle. The season here is pretty much done so I'll be armchair flying for the next few months but hope to do some more of this next season.

Re: Back in the saddle

I understand the joy of returning to flying after a long hiatus. My flying "career" has been speckled with a lot of flying and then no flying for awhile--the longest no flying gap was from one BFR to the next one. Right now I've been out of the air due to having my medical temporarily pulled since mid-August, so I'm anxiously awaiting the letter that the FAA promised last week to reinstate me.

Meanwhile, take care of yourself--sounds like you had a pretty serious injury.

Welcome back. I didn't make it back to medical, but good to get to fly with others.

Great news! Glad to hear you are back in the air. Next time I'm over that direction I may send yoy a message. I try to get to Steinbach at least once a year.

Steinbach is nice and close. 15-20 minute flight. 30 minute drive. Good restaurants on site both ends of the runway. Feel free to look me up.
