Back To Alaska
Share tips, techniques, or anything else related to flying.
Well the time is almost here for me to set out on my second trip to Alaska. I will be leaving the middle on next week and plan on hitting the border around the 10th. I flew up the trench last time and had great flying conditions all of the way. I am going much earlier this year and I am worried about the weather conditions. Is flying the trench this early a bad idea? Is it better to follow the highway all the way? What kind of weather can I expect this time of year and what should I watch out for.
Im hoping some of the gurus will chime in on this one and help me out. All advice is appreciated.

Hi renegade,
I usually make that decision at Prince George. At that point you rule out following the Cassiar.... A bit farther along you can re affirm at Mackenzie, where you are either going up the Trench (my preference Wx allowing) or jumping over and following the hwy...
I'm sure you pretty much had that figured though... You didn't say when you flew up last time but it is early yet... I would call Vicki at NT air (Mackenzie) they fly the trench daily and can give you the best up to date pirep... and which villages / camps have fuel and are "playing nice" (250) 997 3247
Wish I was going!
Take care, Rob

Last year I crossed the border on the 4th of july, and I believe I met Vicki on the way up. Thanks for the info, hopefully the weather will play nice.
