Im going to be spending a few weeks based in Tahoe this month with my 182. Im wondering if there are some fun backcountry / less traveled strips that would be fun to hit in the area and that a trike can handle? (8.5s / Sportsman). Id like to fly as much as possible, so the more missions the better.

Additionally, do you you guys know a good CFI in the area or just someone that knows the place well that would fly with me? I figure I can always use the instruction and its important to keep learning.. Would love if there was someone in that general region that I could hire to share their knowledge.

Kevin Quinn is who I would go fly with.

Yeah Kevin got back to me. Super nice guy but seems like he is super busy. Ton of seaplane flights he said.

I will second the recommendation of Kevin Quinn!
Prior to his 180, cubs, and stearman, he spent years pioneering great spots in his 182.
Besides that, he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Kevin's a good dude. Fun to fly with. But I wouldn't wait very long for anyone, even him. Find another grizzled Sierra pilot if it's too far out on the schedule.

Finally out in Tahoe with the 182. Wondering if anyone here has any information on the Bog Hot Springs road landing or Bonham Ranch? From the information I can gather they look pretty straight forward.

Ive also been going through the Nevada/ Sierra guide and thought maybe someone here has some experience in a trike on some of the easy green circles. There are some dry lake beds and other easy spots but any intel would be greatly appreciated. I know I know, stay away from dark dirt!

Try reaching out to Trent Palmer(not a CFI). He's based out of Reno/Stead(KRTS, 25NM north of Truckee(KTRK). He's posted tons of video flying the area.

I landed at Bog hot springs about 3 years ago. You can land either straight section of the main road and turn off at the bend and taxi right up to the spring. Some of the bushes are a bit tall though and my wings barely cleared. You might want to get out and look first to see if you want to taxi all the way in or just park further away. The spring itself was very hot. I couldn’t bare the main section and went further down stream but it gets pretty shallow.

At my hangar every day, fly every day. Looks like we may connect Friday?

Do not land on the north side of the springs. That's reservation and they will take your plane of caught. Not worth it. Land on south side and park at pull out, then walk 2 minutes.

More landings around here than one could visit. Make it happen. As said, I'm at my hangar every morning around 9.
