Alec, better known as KenyaCub on the cub site has a nifty way to carry the real deal... KTM meets Atlee lumber rack.

Gary, if we gotta say God bless Steve Knopp, then we gotta add SuperCubs and Atlee to that too

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

I have taken my mountain bike in aircraft several times. Take off the wheels and cover the chain so it doesn't grease the interior. Keeps me fit and skillful and is legal many places a motorcycle wouldn't be. Plus, it doesn't need fuel that would also need to be hauled.

It fits real easy, super lite, goes like hell on the airport ramp. Have not tried it in the dirt yet.

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

What is this Utahmaule? You bought one without me??? Do you think I could squeeze one or two of those in my skywagon extended baggage? When will the dirt testing take place? I'm flying down to happy tomorrow to hike the narrows for the day...

Sounds fun, I'm in the middle of my annual or I'd invite myself....... My prop is in the back of my truck waiting for a ride to Boise so I'll be down for a little while. I hiked Happy a few years ago, fun getting into the bottom and back out again.

I'm not familiar with the 180's baggage, but it's so lite, that I think you could get it back there, just might be awkward. The Cub guys at the airport say it would fit in the hopper on their A model Cubs.

I hope to be back in the air in 1-2 weeks and then the dirt testing can begin. You should fly up and meet me out in the dirt somewhere and see if you like it, and if it will fit.

There is something about being on something that weighs 1/5 as much as I do and will burn gas, make noise, and haul ass. Not sure how practical. But fun for sure.

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

I had (about 10 years ago) a Honda Trail 90 that broke into three pieces with no tools required. The cables had quick connects. I think it was just called "Suitcase Cycle". I thought I might still have the paperwork but I guess I gave it to the new owner. It fit in my Maule with no problems but the center section was a bit heavy. It was street legal and it had the hi/lo range so it wasn't too bad off road   as long as you were not in a hurry.

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

Looking at picking up my son a Honda CRF50, Yamaha PW50 type of beginner bike but having trouble finding one locally. I'd rather not drive if I have to go getone, and I was wondering if anyone had put one (or similiar) in the back of their 182? Obviously with the seat out.

Cool, but it looks like a real PITA to load and unload, not something I'd want to do several times a day anyway. Plus a fair bit of prep, and weight and maybe drag, in the needed lumber rack thingie. And that right hand handle bar is way too close to the ground, at least for uninhibited off airport "work." For very occasional use into a known LZ....very cool.

I'm being picky, because my folding electric mountain bike fits in my RANS with no special mods, or added drag, is ready to ride in 3 minutes, stows away that fast, and has (totally silent) range of 10 to 25 miles, depending on how much you help it out. Plus you ride it like a bike, on sidewalks etc., without LEO's attention! Great for bar hopping!

I can't see those pictures UtahMaule posted for some reason, so don't know what kind of ride he has, but he's putting it in his Maule, so I'm guessing....maybe a fully dressed out Goldwing?? I just noticed the age of this thread.....

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

I'll have to find the pictures, but I used to throw a old RM125 in the back of my pacer.

I had to remove the front fork and tire, rear tire and had to compress the rear with a ratchet strap.

Got it down to about 20-30 minute assembly time.. that was a tight fit.

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

Now that's more like I'd expect a Maule pilot to carry! Can you ride it up into the plane or do you have to get off? The room those things have, combined with those doors, I would believe they can carry about anything.

Ya you could definitely fit a 50 in a 182.. probably two of them

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

After Courierguy got me all excited about the electric folding bike I spent way too much time looking at all the options on the internet and this one was at the top of my wish list for taking in the airplane.

That seems to be a funky link? Can't see what you're referring to anyway.

https://goo.gl/photos/jKHD4muxfNFiYf8HA Ninja 250. Can take me and the wife down the hwy at 70 and still pass a truck when needed. I can load and unload by myself. Still learning how to do it smoothly.

Re: Backcountry flying with your motorcycle?

Love this thread, motorcycles and airplanes are my two favorite things! You guys are killing me with the huge baggage doors.

Been looking at the skydive doors lately, may be the solution for 180-185. Anyone have any success loading a mid-size bike in the 180/182/185?

That turbine conversion is an amazing machine Skydive206, thanks for the photos!
