Backcountry Pireps

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if we could get some of you that live near some of the backcountry strips in UT and ID to post some early spring pireps on the strips you've been into already. Like many of you, I'm sure, I've got some flying itches and I'm wondering what strips are either ready for use or well on their way to being ready. Since not all have webcams like Johnson Creek and Smiley Creek (which still have a lot of snow :x ), it would be good to get some pireps.

Thanks!

Start a thread in the Airports, Strips. and Destinations forum (this one) for any given airport, and just keep adding to it.

Owyhee Res. State (28U) is in good shape and ready for use. I have landed there once this spring. The Hotel needs a little cleaning, but other than that it looks good. Bob.

PIREPs, etc.

Not to drive traffic away from BCP, but you can always add your PIREPs and other airstrip specific information at shortfield.com...it was built for collecting and retrieving backcountry airstrip information.

In fact, Zane and I have talked about adding the ability for BCP users to access shortfield.com data from within the BCP forum. More on that soon.

I almost always post an update at shortfield.com when I go somewhere. I've been hoping that BCP and shortfield would kinda work together.

Here is a preview of the backcountry airport database widget that I've been working on. It's a little rough around the edges, but I will be cleaning it up over the next few weeks.

The widget can be embedded into other web sites (forums, html pages, etc.) and allows users to access the growing database of backcountry airport information at shortfield.com. The goal is to start accumulating this information (pictures, PIREPs, video, etc.) in one location that is easy to search and centrally located.

As you can see most of the airports need more information so if you have pictures, PIREPs, videos, etc. - please upload them (see notes, below).

Notes:
- currently you have to go to shortfield.com and log-in to upload PIREPs, photos, video, etc., but that will be changing so that you can contribute through the widget directly (i.e. from the comfort of the BCP website)
- Currently, I'm only showing airport data for a few western states (Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Utah. I will turn on the other airport markers soon.

I look forward to getting feedback from everyone and I think it will be a pretty useful and entertaining tool.

Thanks,
Chris
