The solution: An 8 dollar 500 lb. pull block and tackle (from Harbor Freight, so you know it is top quality) with 60' of rope. An entrenching tool, U.S. Government made, by the lowest bidder. I've had it forever, so free. Ziptied and taped together, and mounted semi permenantly in the rear baggage compartment (won't do any good sitting in the hangar, I may take it out when planning to ridge soar deadstick or not going off airport). Total weight less then 5 lbs. That and my super sharp 1.5 lb hatchet, with the hammer head for the tie down spikes, also handy for other purposes.
I got it out this time by noticing the hole, which was real steep the way I hit it, was more gently sloped (on the left), so I rotated the tail 90 degrees, (luckily no obstacles prevented that) and was able, just barely, to pull it out. It got me thinking... with this kit I now have I could chop out a ramp and/or use the block and tackle. I also have a short cable choker for misc. rigging to a hard point if need be. These damn holes were everywhere, and big enough for a bassett hound, so I am assuming badger, luckily not home at the time.
