Clearing customs at KBLI yesterday (entering US), CBP carefully scrutinized my medical.
Ever since G.W. Bush created the Homeland Security monster they have taken it upon themselves to perform checks on GA pilots that should be in the realm of the FAA, but since they are the biggest gorilla in the forest no one can tell them "no".

Flying into Canada I have never been asked for airplane or my docs. Going into US you are grilled and given the Geiger counter. Rubber gloves will be next.
The reality is I will never do something that will preclude me crossing a border in the future.
And if I was so inclined to do something bad I would not show up at a airport of entry after I announced when and where I was coming.

When I stated earlier about telling 'friends' about the need for their medicals, I probably could have worded my response better to mean: They would be check upon return by the US Gestapo (CBP) not the Canadian's. I know in returning from my last trip into Canada that was my personal experience. Honestly, they need a little training in customer service.

They don't believe they have a customer.

Flew into Canada today. Had already eAPIS'd couple days before. Called McMinnville and filed a flight plan and got a border crossing transponder code. Then called Canada customs gave them a routing and destination, plus just info from my passport. Took off, opened plan with McMinnville. Landed three hours later at CZBB, parked in the customs pen, shut down and phoned (Canadian) customs. They asked if there was any change from my departure call, and then just gave me a clearance number to write into the aircraft log book. The end.

Re-entering US is when the unfriendliness starts.

They seem pretty cool at the Alaska stations, but yeah in general I agree.
