Re: Beach Landing

They wear like iron. Remember, these tires were designed for MUCH heavier and much faster landing aircraft than the ones we're talking about here.

Re: Beach Landing

With beach landings, footprint is your friend...

This shows the 8.5x6; 8.5x10; 29x11x10s buffed which gets rid of ~5lbs of tread.

Re: Beach Landing

Matt, your hangar is starting to look like a NASCAR pit stop!

Re: Beach Landing

John, We have been planeless in NZ, but somehow we have found other things to occupy our time. Would you believe some people drive a car to get to the beach? Did have a great flight around part of the North Island with Graeme Prankerd in his beautiful 180B last week. He was apologetic that the flying wasn't as cool as the vertical terrain on the South Island, but it was all pretty sweet! He is leaving to go to the states today, so some of you may see him in Idaho at the aviation conference or the 180 fly-in at the Flying B.
Yes, I need to get rid of some rubber. I still have the 8.5x10s. Gary, Shortfielder, was going to grab them but with all my transitions I kept missing him. I believe he picked up some 29s. Is there going to be a swap meet at the JC fly-in??

Re: Beach Landing

Matt, I am sure that you guys are making the most out of NZ anyway.

However, FYI there is a very nice couple down there, who I met at New Holstein a few years ago. They are both flight instructors and have at least one super cub. They promised a very easy NZ pilot license and then you could rent their cub and go land on beaches. I have their card somewhere, but I am sure Steve J could hook you up with them easier??

good luck and good times,
John

Re: Beach Landing

Does anyone here know of anyone running 29x11x10s on single puck brakes?

Re: Beach Landing

I doubt you'd get them approved. The GarAeros have to be field approved, and the AK Bushwheel 10 inch wheels I believe require a double puck brake assy in the stc.

Re: Beach Landing

For controlled and effective braking, Single puck brakes are inadequate for anything greater than 8.50x6.
