Beautiful Fall Day in the Desert

Everyone once in a while there is a nearly perfect flying day. Yesterday was one of those for me. The air was still and crisp, the sky was blue and the company was fun. I recently stumbled into an amazing deal on a Just Air Escapade with a Rotax 912S. I've converted the little ship to a taildragger, added VG's and flap deflectors. The flap deflectors made the biggest difference in my approach speed. The Escapade is the little sister to the Highlander. The wings are shorter and the tail feathers are a little smaller with a vintage shape. The fuselage is identical to the Highlander.

I started my flying in ultralights, traded up and trained for my GA ticket in a Jabiru powered X-Air, then finished building and flying an Avid 4 HH, flew off 200 hours in a Kitfox 4 and now I'm learning my new Escapade. Which was the perfect plane for yesterdays nearly perfect flying day.

We headed out of Nampa, ID to the West and the adventure included desert flying, canyons, water, beach landings and off field practice. My flying friends didn't need any practice, they just enjoyed finding cool places to land and we all enjoyed the scenery and serenity of the day. I would love a few more days like yesterday in the next couple of weeks! I'm just started posting, I'll add pics when I figure out the system.

Steve Henry's Highlander... if you are thinking of building or purchasing a back country aircraft, the Highlander should be at the top of the list. This exceptionally capable plane can do most anything, if short and rough strips are your style. My Escapade fits well on his wing.

Saw your pics on FB. Looked like a great time. Glad to see your getting the feel for the Escapade and getting to fly in Idaho in November! I had one of those days last Sunday. I was by myself so I didn't do anything too gnarly but it was just one of those days when you get back to the hangar and climb out and look back at your bird and think to yourself damn that was awesome.
