I think one of these might be a good basis for a nice camper conversion.

Re: Best Camper?

Years ago there was an LSA built like a mini flying camper, called the Eco-flyer. I thought it was an awesome idea. Unfortunately, the designer died in a crash and the plane design was never developed into a consumer product. It was displayed at Oshkosh with a label and chairs in the area behind the pilot seat.

Another one is the Murphy Rebel, the early ads even showed it with two people in sleeping bags, laying in the rear.

I got a ride in Dean Wilson's Explorer several years ago out of Garden Valley. It had a double bed in back, stand up height, a table, and sat level thanks to the tri gear. About like a full size van camper. I also got a looksee at the twin engine Global Explorer, and that thing was more like a full sized Class A motorhome. https://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitle ... Don't try to sleep in a Cessna 120. It's miserable, even the 2nd time, and the 3rd time, and the 4th...just set up the tent. My laziness and tolerance for discomfort are a strange balance.

Hmm wasnt too bad! Just remove the baggage liner and seatback, and stuff the seatback down the tailcone for leg support! Seat cushions for pillows, and an inflatable pad and sleeping bag for insulation, and BOOM instant bed (sorta... results may vary)

I carry a tent but it has been about five years since I slept in it. If the weather is nice, sleep out. If it isn't, FBO couch or Holiday Inn!

Besides, it's too hard to see the sky through the nylon.

I remember just sleeping out as a kid--
what I don't remember is the waking up soaked with dew!
Must be that darned global warming....oops, I mean climate change.

I bookmarked this link -- that tent cot looks more attractive every time I look at it.
I hate setting up a tent for just me for just one night...
but sleeping in the 180, while perfectly do-able, has it's drawbacks too.
Like MTV pinted out, you get the soggy condensation thing,
plus I always wake up slid back to the aft end of the cabin in a fetal position.

Re: Best Camper?

Best bird for camping is the BAE-146. Plenty of room to stretch out. Preferably the tanker configuration with no seats.

Re: Best Camper?

There was a heli-home in Popular Mechanics a long time ago. Maybe S61? Anyway, that would be something to pick up if one has the means.

Huh, doesn't look at all like the one that crashed on takeoff near Pt McNeill, BC. Or maybe the crashed one was the twin engine version?
