The mfg. may have restarted since people like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. have a real need to fight fires in their server farms with something that does not trash the electronics.

Most of these companies are probably using FM-200 for server farms. The tech company I work for uses this and a limited amount of halon for our data centers. CO2 innundation takes a long time, and requires huge cylinders to work in large facilities.

Re: Best Cockpit Fire Extinguisher?

We still have an older data center that has a Halon fire suppression system, but newer data centers built in the last 15 years are mostly using FM-200 or 3M Sapphire supression systems. The DC I work in uses 3M Sapphire and it is pricy stuff. Halon production was banned in 1994 though reclaimed/recylced Halon is still accessible and existing systems can continue to be used.

The active extinguisher line, very much like fire trace, would be interesting. Protect the whole plane, automatic and discharges at the point of fire wile incipient. We use fire trace at work and it is a good technology.

You can fly the plane while the system works.

FireAde 2000

Open the link then click on the FireAde FAQ's.
Race teams use the stuff.

I carry the dry chemical extinguisher along with one of these.

Yes. Unless I've been asleep or lost my mine, Halon has not been manufactured for a very long time. (ozone layer issues) In existing systems, once a discharge has taken place you'll not be able to re-fill without previously stored stock. Alyeska has the world's largest known stocks of the stuff and an accidental discharge is cause for immediate dismissal. The conversion price to FM-200 or Sapphire is not cheap but is usually better than trying to find some for sale and knocking a facility off line while you wait

Did I miss something here? A new Halon branded replacement? (I see now I'm late to the party. Others have brought this up)

Here is what the FAA has to say:

This advisory circular (AC) gives you guidance for the fire-fighting effectiveness, selection and safe-use of hand fire extinguishers in airplanes and rotorcraft.
