bigger tires might have helped?

You guys trying to convince the wife to write a check out for some bushwheels (yeah, right....) show her this. No injuries I hear, and it seems it was the pivot line wheel tracks that got him, that would have just been a small bump for me. For whatever reason, or maybe I just missed it, the news coverage of this didn't get all hysterical =D> http://www.localnews8.com/news/plane-cr ... index.html

Hey that looks like the stinson I saw in Emmett last year.

[edit]. It is. Found the pic I took of it on the ramp last summer. Bummer. Hope the damage isn't too bad and glad he is OK.

Re: bigger tires might have helped?

hard to say about the bigger tires not having seen the track he says he ran into on roll out but I can say since I've gone to 29 11 10's I've hit some rather large holes and ruts and hardly noticed them.. don't think my old 800's would have fared so well.. So when all the complaints about speed loss are done when the rubber meets the road bigger is always better and more forgiving.. so what good is it to arrive 30 minutes sooner on small tires when you may not survive the rollout...

On the other hand, the trench that the nose is tipped into where it ended up resting doesn't look like the sort of thing that even 35 inch Bushwheels could have worked for...

A missing fuel cap was offered up as a possible explanation by the local sheriff. This would of course lead to too much air in the fuel tanks. No fire anyway :D But it was 100 degrees that day and the retrieval was ardous I was told.
