Looks like a great plane.

And BC is a pretty incredible area to explore.

Yes, BC is pretty incredible and the plane really shows what a tiny corner the Lower Mainland is. I need only fly a couple minutes North of my farm and all the people and buildings are gone, just mountains, forests and lakes.

Re: Bought my first plane

Awesome. Looks like a perfect 180! Congratulations. The 2960's have a bad rap but they are fine once you get onto them. Fly it off, don't try to pull it out of the water. If you try, the heels will drag. It will tell you when it's ready to go.

The Wing X's are great. My 180 is bone stock, but flew a 185 before and after installing them. I was impressed. Much slower T/O and landing speeds, climb better, etc. A little less aileron effectiveness but it's hardly noticeable after the first flight.

Enjoy your machine.

Re: Bought my first plane

Passed a milestone today. First annual on my first plane. Pleased to say it went off without a hitch. Everything was good and we cleaned up a few little things that were bugging me. Got a few comments about what a solid plane she is and got away with pretty much the basic charge for an annual on a 180, so I'm a happy man. Here she is all washed up and ready for the annual.

I think I'm going to get the shop to put on full length steps on the float struts so it's a little easier to fuel and access the windshield and engine. Possible we'll add a paddle bracket on one float as well.

Good on you FF! Such a great looking plane.

Nice to have that first big inspection out of the way, right?

With planes, we are almost neighbours. My plane is on wheels for the winter, but let's do some float flying next summer!

Thanks Allan. I like your 182 as well, are you getting up with it much? I've still got some hours to put on before they'll insure me out solo in this thing. First I had all the harvest work of fall and then it rained every single day in October so I've not been up much.
Meeting up for some flying next spring/summer sounds like a great plan.
It did feel good to get the first annual out of the way. I've always had lots of machinery and it feels like with all the farm equipment I'm free to poke around a bit myself (or do fairly in depth work) so I rarely get surprised by what the shop finds if I do send a machine into the shop (although I do still occasionally get surprised by the bills). With the plane though it's a bit different and I was glad there were no costly surprises.
