Bozeman Flying

It looks like I'm going to be going to school in Bozeman, MT starting in the Fall. Being a poor college student I'm probably not going to have a lot of money to fly, but I figured the occasional flight probably isn't out of the question. Does anyone have any recommendations as to rentals out of BZN? I've looked around online and have a general idea of what's there but just wanted to see if anyone had any input on any of the operations there.

Thanks,

Sam

If you are an AOPA member a guy with the handle "z-bow-flyz" posts on the red forum board at aopa.org - he instructs there, not sure for who.

Have fun. Bozeman is a great place. Don't skip out of class on too many powder days.

Get in contact with the Gallatin Valley hangar folks and they'll tell you all you need to know.

And don't miss the annual fly-in of the MAAA (Montana Antique Aircraft Association) at nearby Three Forks, usually the weekend after Oshkosh. My all time favorite every year. Lots of planes but real casual, right down to the beer van cruising the tie down area!

Re: Bozeman Flying

The Three Forks Fly In has been moved to one week earlier because there's some flower festival or some such lunacy in Bozeman on the traditional Three Forks Weekend. So look for virtually no people this year because they will all be at OSH.

Thanks for the date correction. For sure it will cut attendance.

Every year I think of flying across the Midwest to Oshkosh, or across Idaho into Montana to go to Three Forks, and Idaho/Montana always wins! I got burned out on Oshkosh, 10 days in 100 degree plus heat, flying factory demo's years ago for the very early Kitfox factory. Way over priced food, no beer, too humid. None of those problems in Montana or Idaho :D

Oshkosh.....No Beer????? Man, did you hang with the wrong crowd. One of the pleasures of flying a four passenger airplane by one's self to OSH is that you can haul a good load of Moose Drool and a good sized cooler. Kid with a golf cart delivers ice every other day.

No BEER at OSH????? My GAWD!!!! The primitives amongst us!!

When I was at MSU 30 years ago there was a university flying club. I would assume its still active. Rates were good and the planes maintained well.
