Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Brakes

I don't like the braking on my 172 with the 8.50x6 tires on it so I ordered the Cleveland Double Puck brakes (with STC) from Alaska Bushwheels today. After we get those brakes on 614, I'm going to go for a field approval for the Goodyear TSO'd 26x10.5x6 tires for the mains.

Anyone else put those tires on a 172?

you can get, or make spacers between the brake disc and wheel to give that clearance, jg

Cleveland or somebody (ABW?) makes those ring spacers. Probably a bd idea to just use washers, as having the whole flat surface of the disc bearing on the wheel (instead of just bearing on the surfaces of 3 washers) is probably a good thing.

Alaskan Bushwheels makes and sells 1/8" spacers and longer bolts for just this application. I just upgraded from 6.00 x 6 mains to 8.00 x 6 mains and had a similar problem with caliper clearance. I'm installing the spacer/bolt kit today. Good luck.

I too needed spacers when I went to 800's and got them from Wup. He sent them out immediately and I had them on a couple of days. Put 2 1/8th spacers on for a quarter inch clearance. I Found that when I rotated my calipers to the front and went to 800's from 700's that the calipers rubbed slightly. I followed Jeremy's advice and put the calipers in front as opposed to behind the gear. I guess that doesn't apply to Cessnas but it is a good idea for Maules.

I just updated my order with Wup to include the spacers and longer bolts for my 172. It sure don't look like any other lower 48 172.

I just installed the spacer kit that I got from Wup at Alaskan Bushwheels. I now have about 3/8" clearance between the tire and caliper and hope that's enough. I probably should have used both spacers, but we'll see what happens. Anyone have any thoughts about the 3/8th?

More than enough space.. You only need about a quarter inch even less from what I was told....Are your calipers in the front?
