Bungee Question

I put a new set of bungees on (Federal 1,500's) the skis recently and I have a hook question. The old hook had a little tab bent into it and a locking ring. The new hook does not. Should I be concerned? The bungees are under tension when I am in the air and my back cable is tight. I also went on one of the ski manufacturers website and watched a installation video just to see the bungee part. Their bungees have just a hook, no lock. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Maybe I am all good, but I would rather find out in writing than the hard way if it is otherwise. I thought about using the old hooks, but they may be older than me.

Thanks,

Pete

Interesting….I’ve never seen an end fitting like that old one. Looks like an added loop to give you something to get hold of. Not a bad idea, but the pic of the new one looks fine.

The loop slips down over the tab and it locks the loop so it can't slip off the fitting. Otherwise it just slides up and down the bungee, not really any good for extra leverage.
I have seen them before but the new ones work just fine. They are all that way now and have been for many years. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Bungee Question

Mine are a simple hook. Just another leap of faith one takes when ski flying #-o

Re: Bungee Question

I put zip-ties on the hooks. I doubt it does much good but it makes me feel better.

Re: Bungee Question

Sometime I put a few wraps of pipe wrap tape over them, can't hurt, also makes me feel better. Just a day or 3 away from the first ski flight of the season, I'm getting cranked up, though I hate taking the 29" Airstreams off.

Re: Bungee Question

Those bungees just keep the toes of the skis up. The. Limit cables are designed to prevent a ski from “going over”. I’ve seen at least one plane land (nose high) with a broken bungee.

And, if you’ve installed them, you’ll know that they’re pretty tight.
