C-180 Empty Weight

Is it possible for a 54 C-180 to weigh 1554 empty with 5 gals unusable?

Re: C-180 Empty Weight

Yes, and with even more fuel.

It would be easier with a '53 (they had lightening holes in the control surface ribs, and lighter gear legs, and only half the paint), but I know of a '54 that went on 35's for a short 'trial' duration, that weighed similar ON 35" ABW's! Also know of more than one working '53 that are in that realm with big engines.

It will need to be very Basic VFR, no carpet, no headliner, and NOTHING that doesn't need to be in it to fly.

Virtually everyone complains about how much weight their airplane has gained, as if the factories fabricated the numbers, but the truth is, NONE of those airplanes end up being in the same trim as the original equipment list depicted. Most of them have a half mile of old wire, a half inch of paint, an inch or two of dirt in the bellies, crushed velour interiors from 1974, ad nauseum.

Take care, Rob

I have a 56 182 that should be similar in weight. Book listed weight is 1550 empty. My weight and balance sheet has it at 1510. Not going to weigh it.

I did a panel over on a 53 and I think it was 1575 or so. Cgr-30 and a 530. Still had an interior and heavy battery
