C-180 Front Seats

I'm considering changing out the front seats on my 58 180A. Are all types of seats for the early models of 180 and 182 interchangeable? Will seats from a 170 or early 172 also work? Hoping to have lots to choose from if all the early models will work.

Re: C-180 Front Seats

I have late model articulating from a 182 in my 54 180 with no change to the seat rails.

Re: C-180 Front Seats

I had seats from a 62' 182 in my 53' 170.

I think some of the later model seats had locking pins on both sides. So if you got some of those seats you'd probably have to add new seat rails with holes on the right side of each seat.

Or delete the second locking pin. Just looked at mine and that appears to be what was done.

Re: C-180 Front Seats

I may be the only person on the planet who really dislikes the Cessna articulating seats. They are maintenance hogs. Everyone who sits in the back thinks those front seat backs are handholds, to be used to lever their rotund arses up out of those back seats.

Don't carry anyone in the back? At some point you'll get some knob in the right seat who got his (okay call me sexist, but I never had a female do this) undies all knotted up boarding, and decides to plant his feet on the floorboards and push his back against that seat back, while rearranging his package.

Either event, and yes it only takes one, can ruin the roll pins in the seat.

Me, I like the old standard seats that Cessna put in their early plane's.

Spend the money on a good confor foam cushion set and decent upholstery.....

I never adjust mine. Figured out what I like about 27 years ago and leave it there.

Right, and with some experimentation, and good cushions to get the seat where you want it, a fixed seat works fine.

Me, I like em too.
Somebody had put later model (but non-articulated) high-headrest seats in my 170,
I found a deal on a used set of stock seats and swapped them out in a heartbeat.
