C170 with C180 legs

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

C170 with C180 legs

Does any one know of an STC to put the early C180 legs on a C170B?

Also an STC to put the duel calipher Cleveland brakes on a C170B?

Thanks

"Tailwheel Tom", formerly XP Mods and now TD Aero, has an STC for using 180 gear legs. I spoke to him last night about gear legs for my 172 conversion.

Re: C170 with C180 legs

EZ,

I have double-puck Clevelands and C180 gear legs on my C170B. I think the gear legs were installed using a form 337 and brakes were added with Gar-Aero Tundra Tire STC (now Alaska Tundra Tires). I also have the pponk gear beef up kit and seaplane V-brace, which are a good idea if you are going off airport with the new improved aircraft.

You'll have to speak with Tom about that, we only discussed what applies to my 172 conversion. Sorry.

Re: C170 with C180 legs

I just did this last year.

STC SA01756NY allows the installation of landing gear legs P/N 0741001-1 through -8, or 054118-2 through -3 on any Cessna 170, 170A, 170B, and 180.

The STC is available from:

QCR Aviation
694 St-Gregoire
Les Cedres, QC J7T 3A4
Canada
(450) 452-2567

The STC was $230 USD when I purchased it last year.

I think this is Eric LeClerc (sp?), I sent him some dimensional info off my gear legs when he was working on getting the STC. Some might think the price high for just paperwork, but considering the time & effort spent getting the STC approved I think it's very reasonable.
My old 170 had C180 gear legs & double-puck Clevelands, installed at the same time under a field approval. Considering what a hassle a field approval can be these days, the STC is indeed a real bargain at $230.

Yep, it's Eric's STC. I thought his fee ($230) was very reasonable considering how easy and quick it made the paperwork.
