C180/185 club?
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
Is the C180/185 organization worth joining? I’ve about completed my purchase, and when perusing their website I get an almost “us vs. them” feeling....maybe not true....
I don’t mind joining/paying for useful info...want to make sure that it’s in fact useful....

we'er not your shrink
All clubs are a mix , what's them and us ?
The club was hi jacked and changed loosing content and past members posts.
Identity of old contributing members were deleted and that's a loss we didn't see coming.
For some of us its gone and wont be the same.
I miss the mature content of adults more accomplished at many aspects of this tech world.
The same thing happened to Seaplane pilots assoc. The past experienced old guys were deleted.
I don't feel good visiting sites containing ankle biters and trolls.
Its like being around drunk kids when your trying to hear the music.

Not much value to me. I was a member. Didn't "leave" due to any issues, my flying is just broader than the "type club" scope. I'm far from a 180 expert, but I've never run across an issue that only the type club has the market cornered on. Actually, often it's quite the opposite. The real value is in the individual heads of the members, and this site is a dramatically better conduit of ideas and info. I've found as much if not more knowledge about Cessna 180/185's on this site, the Supercub site, and my own research if needed.

If you go down this rabbit hole, you're going to tickle some tender meat, ala Winger's reaction above.
Here's the most recent discussion on the matter:

That's been my experience too.
IMHO the attraction of the 180/185 Club would be the social aspect.

Been to hell and back...
Good thing about ACA is "They" take care of my aircraft. ACA sends me anything I ask for promptly. Parts, service instructions, drawings are at my finger tips. They will be even build me a new one if I ask nicely. They treat me like a VIP.
I was a Cessna, Piper owner/operator and joined the type clubs but hated them. It was us against the factory and the world.
Now, I can just kick back knowing ACA, WipAire, and Lycoming are taking care of business.

I joined last year when I bought the 180. Not going to renew. I'll be sending the money to the RAF instead.
That's my opinion and worth exactly what you paid for it.

Interested to know how to get drawing for them. We asked for a set of scout drawings and they said no way.
Yes they will send you anything, but it may take a bloody long time and cost a fair amount. But at least you can get it. I still like ACA, just wish they'd be more cooperative/communicative with some stuff.

I never said anything about bad customer service. Just slow sometimes.
But I was asking a honest question about the drawings. We asked for a scout fuselage drawing and were flat out told not a chance. But I would really like to see a set. So if you have a source, it would he good to know about.

Not sure about how much design info they will forward. It is done on a case by case basis I think. But, I can not speak for them, I'm only a customer. I would explain to Dale what you need help with specially.

In everyday life, do people get pulled up short when they drift the subject a little?
I mean, isn't that what conversations do?

I belonged to the 180-185 club many years back, then let my membership lapse. In my opinion there is not enough going on there to make it worthwhile to join, I very rarely visit the site anymore.
Here is what Zane suggests in the rule book:
"Be respectful of the discussion. Make an effort to not derail or "hijack" a topic with unrelated posts.
Consider whether your post will actually contribute in a meaningful or useful way, or whether it will just add "noise."

If you're trying to get specific answers on a specific subject....hell yes I'd pull someone up short. Changing the subject from a type club to another airplane manufacturer and whether they offer drawings for their airplane....good grief!

Anyone else picturing someone getting a wedgie? Is this dialog from a Dragnet episode?
Each of you is right in your own way. I feel kinda like a proud parent that someone referenced the "rule book." But what Steve quoted pretty much says it.
That said, thread drift is inevitable sometimes and I am plenty guilty myself. I just try to not be too much of a douchebag when I do.

Some real good people involved with the club, they even let me in with a sex change 182B [emoji33]
That said, only paid dues for one year. Pretty much a yawn fest over there compared to the excellent BCP community, where everyone interested in flying is welcome [emoji2]

Southern Boy asked a good question. I've been a member for 6 or 7 years. When I wonder about the payback from being a member , I have to ask myself if it's worth the price. Now I have something new to worry about.
When I read the previous dialogue between hotrod ,MTV and Zane . I think to myself this is pure entertainment . Can't put a price on it.
