California - places to fly in for a long couple's weekend

Hello

I'm new to this forum, so forgive me if I post in the wrong spot!

I am looking for the "expert's" advice  on an airstrip near to some beautiful, remote camping or cabins, or a place of interest that would be a nice spot for a couple looking for some r n' r, as well as a lovely natural setting, in California ... hiking, swimming, biking, hot springs (especially hot springs!), any of these would be great.

Anyone have any suggestions? Would be for Labor Day long weekend, Friday-Monday. Originally, it was going to be Burning Man, but my pilot (ie favorite companion) is not the running-naked-in-the-desert type and would rather spend it flying to a spectacular natural environment somewhere here in CA ... maybe on the coast? The Lost Coast? Can be as far as the Vegas area from the Livermore airport, in any direction. He's a veteran flyer (almost 40 years!) and I'd like to find a spot he hasn't been to, before. Would love to hear about your secret places ... (and promise not to spread the word around! )

Thanking you in advance --

Shelter Cove is good. Probably late for reservations. There was a previous thread on camping in Oregon. Check out this site http://www.aviation.state.or.us/Aviation/warning.shtml Sierra Hot springs in Sierraville, CA. Do a google search for that. Chicken Strip in Death Valley.

Really need to know what your pilot friend is flying.

Not everyone gets naked at Burning Man.

Surprise Valley Hot Springs was a fun place for us a few years ago. Convenient to the Bay area for you.

There is also a very romantic aircraft boneyard at the airport...

Thanks for all the replies!

Thank you everyone for all the replies!

Forgive me for not providing all the technical info you might need to respond ... we usually fly in Cessnas and the like ... small planes, out of a flying club in Livermore, CA.

I know everyone doesn't get naked at BM ... I was trying to sum up the response I got when I suggested it. ; )

I've read the posts on this forum about Surprise Valley Hot Springs and Chicken Strip, will check those out more. Shelter Cove is on my list, that one's been mentioned previously when we've talked about trips. We also talked about the Sierras, so will check out that link, too. I've found sites with small airport/airstrip listings, it's just trying to match them to a nice place to settle in (and accessible from the airstrip!) that's hard ...

Let me know if anything else comes to mind ... appreciate the feedback.

Thx

Silver Lake Forest Service Strip. Cowboy Dinner Tree Restaurant. Way out of the way. Gravel/dirt strip. Rustic accommodations. The greatest meal you will ever have. Believe it or not, reservations are absolutely required.
Aspen Ridge Resort.
Lands Inn
Meling Guest Ranch
Minam River Lodge
Ruth Lake. Camping only, but nice runway. Way out of the way.
Soldier Meadows. Dirt strip, but as far out of the way as imaginable. Great food, within walking distance of hot springs. 30 or so miles north of the Burning Man site.
Trinity Center Airport. Carrville Inn, amongst others.
Garberville Airport. Benbow Inn. I believe the Benbow will pick you up at the airport. Very nice old inn.
Furnace Creek Ranch

and last but not least

Self-Fly Safaris in South Africa. OK it doesn't meet your criteria, but it looks fun.

places to fly in for a long weekend

Wow, what a great list, thanks! I'm particularly interested in Ruth Lake and Coyote Flats ... someone posted about there being a useable cabin at Baker Lake a few miles away from C. Flats ... I'm assuming if it's empty, we can use it, but does anyone know if you can camp relatively easily there, along the lake? Any fresh water source? (I certainly don't mind hiking 5-6 miles, but don't want to do it with big water bottles!)

Thanks, and again I so appreciate all the responses ...
