Like I said in the other thread, I had a Canon G11 which I believe is an older version of the G16. I did not like it. Like I explained, I thought it was slow in all respects. And, although it has the manual style controls, it always seemed to be trying to out think me. I found it frustrating.
I looked at the G16 with my mom because she wanted a camera similar to what it sounds like you want - although she does not hunt. I was not impressed with the G16. In the store it is hard to imaging how it will be in real life but, I really did't like the viewfinder. Maybe you wont be using it much but it really bothered be.
My mom ended up getting the Fujifilm X20. She seems happy with it but, honestly, all these cameras are a bit too confusing for her. She's in her mid eighties and the analog style controls combined with the menus are a bit overwhelming for her.
If you want to step up a bit, you could go mirrorless. They are a bit bigger and you can get interchangeable lenses. But they cost a bit more. But you can have more control. There is a great video on B & H that explains the category, and goes over a range of options at different price points. You can watch it here in the B & H Event Space. Click Here:

They are great on rainy days when your sick in bed. Additionally, I have purchased from B & H online. I was impressed. I had the opportunity to visit their store once while in NY. Wow! What a place. Check it out if you are ever there.
