camping, fuel, sight seeing?

am picking up a plane for a friend in SBA (santa barb,Calif.)

thought I'd take a few days extra to wander as I take it to seattle
before bringing it home......

looking for something new, interesting to see between SBA and SEA.... have no direction in mind other than north...

coast? inland? or even nevada then eastern oregon ?

the coast or nev-east org. I have never done...the I5 north thing have done many times

any ideas...perhaps camping here and there, some hiking?

thanks

If it's not to far out of your way, and you are hungry, checkout the Harris Ranch. Great steaks. But they serve all meals, and have lodging. They have their own butcher shop. You can buy fresh steaks, and take them home with you. Not too far from Coalinga.

Haven't been there in probably 20 years or more, but have told friends about it, and they say it is still very good.

They used to have a little strip that parallelled the highway.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

My SPOT page

I think you could get reservations at the Hilton Hotel on the Owyhee Res. state airport. Plenty of hiking and camping available. The identifier is 28U. It is in eastern Oregon about 35 miles south west of ONO Ontario , OR. Or you could stop and spend the night with me in Vale Or. S49. 35 miles North of 28U. Bob

I have two videos that might help, If you have never been to The Owyhee strip. Just go to www.youtube.com/skybobb and search for videos: Owyhee Res. Hilton Hotel & Sadie and Landing Owyhee Res. (28U). enjoy Bob

Call and make reservations for dinner and lodging at the Cowboy Dinner Tree Restaurant Steakhouse in Silver Lake, Oregon. Cheap place to stay in the middle of nowhere and one of the best meals you will ever have. This time of the year they are only open on Friday and Saturday. You can land at Silver Lake Forest Service Strip and the folks at the restaurant will pick you up, I believe. Reservations are absolutely essential.

It takes a big man to cry. But it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Nice Hilton.....

I like your thoughts and direction, in checking out some of the strips
I see such a vast contrast to what I'm use to...question about M45
John... at near 6000 ft. any snow this time of yr. ? second Does that Hilton come with room service SkyBob ? I will plan on going that direction, it's what I wanted to do all along.............

My plan is first of April but have few things that might push it to
5th or 6th. will continue to watch for more input.

Thanks for all your help !

glaciercub, Did you see I edited my first post to give you two videos to give a look ? About the room service, there is a rumor that there is an Owyhee Nymph running around in those parts. If you find her she might serve as Room service. Read the log books if you stop by. Bob

Keep me informed on the dates you maybe heading this way. I have a fellow pilot that is visiting on the 5th or 6th of April and I need to give him a ride someplace. If you would happen to be looking for the Owyhee Nymph about that time we could come visit. Bob

Have you decided on the Owyhee Res. stop as yet, I would love to fly down and meet you. Let me know so I can make a plan. Did I tell you that there is some fishing tackle in the metal lined box in the corner of the Hilton Hotel? Bob
