Can you stretch a cowboy hat?

Can you stretch a cowboy hat?

So I bought this XXX Dick Cheney cowboy hat in my normal size. I don't think your head grows when you get older does it? I know your ears and your feet do. Some things shrink.

Anyway, It's kinda hard to return it and I've never owned a decent hat before so can you? Stretch it I mean. Make it bigger. Like another 1/8th or so. It's 7 1/4 now.

Dan, you should be able to get it to go an 1/8th. Steam it and then wear it around and it should stretch and fit to your head.

Or take it to any higher end western store that sells quality hats, and they'll have a steamer/stretcher. A 1/8 increase is easy. It gets harder past a 1/4 increase, but even then, a careful hatter can get the job done.

Easy
1. put hat on cowboy
2. Find hot chick to tell cowboy his landings are the best she has ever seen!
3. Take hat and put in dryer to get it down to the right size

Hot water is your answer. Pour hot water on outside and inside of seam/s that you want to stretch/shape and wear it till it dries.

If you leave a xxx hat in a hot car or someplace like that, it will shrink. Some things on the body definitely shrink and some parts keep growing, but the head doesn't do either, unless you're elected to office.

Locally, D Bar M has a set up, Maybe Rodgers, probably Sheplers.
Directed steam and sizer.

I'm normally a diy guy but not this time. Thanks for the info Chance. Chance is an excellent cowboy name isn't it? Dan'll. Hmmmph. I got the boots, the jeans, a couple of shirts and now the hat. No horse though. I've milked a cow but I've never roped one.....
