Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

I too would like to have patroller doors on my 64 model. I have never investigated, but I don't imagine there are any drawings other than maybe those in the illustrated parts catalog. These of course would not have any dimensions or specs that you'd need to build a set. The next best bet would be to beg borrow or steal a set to measure and otherwise reverse engineer.
I've thought about just modifying the standard doors I have now, or at least the RH door (to improve the view from the pilot's seat). I haven't ever even tore the inside panel off to check things out, but from the rivets there would appear to be some structural members running right through where you'd want the plex. You'd have to cut those & figure some other way to reinforce the door. Actually cutting the exterior skin itself & fitting the plex would be the easy part.

JUst a word about visibility through patroller doors. I do not know if it is good on early 150's, but on my 80 skywagon the pilot and co pilot can not see through them. I am about 6 foot tall and if i adjust my seat to touch the rudder pedals i can not see through them at all. The rear passengers really seem to enjoy the view though. I was just wondering if they are usable on 150's?

Cessna drawings exist for the 140,I have a full size copy. I assume they may for the 150 as well. I investiated it for my 140 as I love them on my Maule, but at least on the 140, there isn't enouh room in the door, and I don't think you could see much through them like SC 185 say's

I liked them alot in the Maule also. Wanted to put them in my 180, but when the seat is adjusted, most of the door was behind me, so it seemed kind of pointless.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

My SPOT page

The drawing I have is 0411914 (DOOR ASSY-PIPE-LINE PATROL SHIP) I would image that Cessna still has it. Don't know about it's applicability though.

I believe that the 140 door and the early (59-65) 150 door are the same size & shape, but the 150 has a 3rd hinge.
I don't think a patrol door on the pilot side would do the pilot any good, at least in my case. However a RH patrol door would improve the pilot's downward viz on that side immensely. If I do go for it, I might just only do the RH door as a patroller. I saw a Luscombe set up like this once- looked kinda funny but still got the job done and he only had to modify one door.

Cessna 150 Patroller doors

I appreciate everyones help and suggestions. I will definitly check into them. Honestly I want to see about putting in the Patroller doors, not necesarily for funtion, but to custom restore. The early 150's came in a "patroller" model, complete with patroller doors and a message tube to drop messages to friends or whomever. Most if not all have been modified and removed. I am not aware from what I can tell of an intact example of a patroller model exists.

Next on my hunt of things to do is to get a seat overhaul with a certified FAA shop for a more automotive and functional, comfortable look and feel.

I am also looking into converting to tailwheel and engine upgrade to make a "baby 180"

Converting an early C-150 (mine's a 1964 D model) to 150 horse & tailwheel gear makes a whole different airplane out of it. Lotsa fun!
I've heard good things about Oregon Aero seat mods, but don't know the costs involved. I wanted more viz over the panel while taxiing, so I peeled the hide off the pilot's seat & added some 2" foam & lashed the hide back down over it. ]It sits me up higher & is more cushy to boot. A buddy gave me the foam so zero cost, I liked that part too.

Re: Cessna 150 patroller doors?

Just re-reading this old thread & wondered if you'd ever found patrol door drawings, Lownslow79?
An observation window in the lower half of a 150's RH door would be very usable for the pilot, IF there was no one riding shotgun. Otherwise the passenger's legs obscure the view.
I ended up removng that extra 2" of foam from my seat, now I just sit up "tall in the saddle" when taxiing for viz over the nose. Getting rid of my bifocals helped with that-- with those darn things, every time I tilted my head up and back to see over the nose, the bifocal part came up into my line of sight and the view got blurry. Now with regular single-vision glasses, it's more of a struggle to read the chart but at least I can see forward on the ground.

My bifocals were driving me nuts, and still do. But for flying, I had my eye doc build me up a pair set for the exact distance my eyes were from the panel, and then... He used that to fill probably 3/4ths of the lens, so I wasn't tipping my head back. So, far vision is only a real thin strip on the very top of the lens, and the panel focus fills all the rest to the bottom. Works perfect for most airplanes I sit in.

Re: Cessna 150 patroller doors?

What year C150? I know of a guy up in Kenai AK who has modified the later-model (1966 and up) squarish doors to a patroller configuration. I can put you in touch with him if that's what you have. The earlier-model trapezoidal doors would have to be chopped up structurally to install big enough observation panels to see much through.

Great looking patroller doors. The rest of the airplane.....not so much.

Re: Cessna 150 patroller doors?

Mike Sibley in Kenai Alaska is the guy to talk to. I think he sells the complete kit (STC?) for the C150 patroller doors. I don't have any current contact info on him, but you might be able to look him up.
