Cessna 170 Micro VG - lower 48 Field Approval

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Cessna 170 Micro VG - lower 48 Field Approval

Sorry to not get this done sooner but have been busy getting ready for layoff after 33 years here at Applied Materials.

Got enough private messages that I decided to just do it this way.

The Field approval I got was for the additional Micro-VGs on the vertical stabilizer of my 53-170-B

The Micro-VG people have an STC for the Square Tail Cessnas, but NOT for the nicer ROUND tailed ones.

Talked to a lady at Micro, she sent me the instuctions, I measured it all out on the 170.

Everything lines up with the same REFERENCE points and lines.

SO !

I went down to Porterville and had a short talk, and a loonngg listen with Harry Delicker of Delair.

I got the lady at Micro-VG, to speak with Harry, and Harry to speak with his long time FSDO person. It worked.

The only difference is that ya loose one vg on one end and two on the other end. As I remember is was one off the bottom and two off the top.

Best outcome has been that My 170 NO LONGER goes HARD over the nose when doing hard - slow slip with 40 degrees of flaps.

Will try to get back on line as soon as can get a system set up at home.

Hoping to keep the plane through one more summer in Idaho

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

I forget the lady's name at micro aero but I will say I was pretty impressed with their customer service. There was no STC for my F-22 taylorcraft and in a little over a month. She was able to get approval from the FAA I have been really impressed with their customer service not to mention their product . speaking for the taylorcraft the vg s give you the ability to do amazing things , and at the very least give you a lot more stability , and a lot more safety. Overall.
