Good-evening Folks.
As mentioned in my introductory post, I am working full-time on a C-170B, for Flight Simulator use. I'm using very advanced tools, and programming methods, to develop this simulation to the highest level of accuracy. You can learn more about the project at http://www.vfrsim.com
I'd like to keep discussion in this thread limited to real-world 170's, and I seek input from pilots who have back-country experience in 170's.. If you would like to discuss items regarding the simulation specifically, please visit the forum at the above website address, or send me a private message.
To those who would like to share their experience, I have written up a brief questionnaire, highlighting a few areas which I am particularly interested in. Also, I encourage users to share photos of their 170's as well. Specifically photos that might details any modifications done to the aircraft, interior or exterior.
170B Questions:
1.) Background on the aircraft.
Year:
Engine:
Prop:
Empty Weight: (if you've had the aircraft on scales. Also detail definition of empty weight..)
Specify the modifications done to your 170, or a 170 that you've flown, that provide the greatest performance benefit in the backcountry.
Specify the modifications that provide the greatest convenience.
Specify any interior modifications, including custom panel/instruments, seats, harness, baggage area.
Then feel free to detail said modifications. Anything from personal experience, PIREP, pricing, headaches associated with.. Anything!
2.) Type of flying done in the aircraft
What field elevations, atmospheric conditions, regions. Anything specific to the type of flying you've done in the 170.
3.) Hind-sight
After having several hours of flight experience with your 170. What would you have done different thus far? Anything you would have left stock? Anything you wish the previous owner would have left alone? Any add-ons that didn't live up to their advertising?
4.) Fore-Sight
Looking ahead, what would you like to do to your 170? Let's make it fun... You've got an extra $40,000, and the wife says "Put it into the airplane".. *chuckle..
I look forward to the responses here. I'll likely target some of you with more detailed questions (Rob, I'm looking at you..) as there are a few grey areas yet in my research, which has hence been very exhaustive.
Best regards!
- Joseph
