Cessna 180 - VG's and Heavy Left wing?
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
Tue Mar 01, 2011 11:45 am
I have read in a couple of postings that some people are having a heavy left wing problem when VG's are installed. I have a 73 Cessna 180 with a heavy left wing with VG's. If someone has any info on this subject could you email me with your phone number so that I may call you to discuss this problem I am having.
Thanks,
Steve

I don't have VG's but I have a 73 180 with a heavy left wing too. I believe mine is rigging. I just burn off the left first, we'll re-rig it one day.

If you're not scarin' yourself, you're not scarin' the crowd!
If you havn't done this, adjust the left cam for more angle on the left wing.
On floats this is a dangerous condition that wouldn't bother some people on wheels. Happy Day

A maule had the same problem after just being recovered and painted. The dihedral and washout had to be adjusted, horizontal stabilizer, too. Flies straight and level now, hands off.

It's not a heavy wing... It's the overly lifty other wing.
I'd wager that your wings are out of rig slightly and the VG's are exacerbating the rolling effect of the difference in AOI, which may have been undetectable before with less efficient flow.

We have checked the wings according to the service mannual and the wings seem to measure OK. The lef wing cam is all the way max lift and the right wing is all the way min lift on the cams.
