Buy now if you can pay cash. Do not go into debt for toys. Folks using home line of credit for toys is what drove plane prices up and F@#ked the economy

I've know Tim for 15 odd years since he walked into my hanger at Whiteman (WHP) with his wife. His Mom used to have a house in Burbank (where he grew up) and he would fly his 182B from Weed ,CA. to Whiteman -and I'd give him a ride over to his Mom's place, after a stop at Santor's sandwich shop. He was in a partnership then and now has another 182B of his own. Don't think he goes to Southern Cailf. as often now (Think his mom moved to Utah ). I've been to Tim's "hobby shop" and house -his wife is really tolerant of his hobby stuff .Don't think for a minute that Tim would actually sell his 182 unless there was another airplane in the deal.

This is my plan for my first plane. May take awhile being only 27. It seems like having a paid for aircraft brings so much more freedom and enjoyment to the ownership process. If there is some positive that comes out of this horrific down turn of the economy I hope it woke-up my generation and and others about the truths of debt.... We did that's why we are "roughing" it until we get rid of our stupid tax SallieMae.... Time will tell.

Well, I first met Tim at the Austin Fly In some years ago and I gotta say, I was a little shy of him to start off with. I think it had to do with a Navy guy asking me if I wanted a "Crepe" for breakfast as he's winking at me :-k It took a while for me to accept his friendship  . But the first time he stayed at my house, I installed a door lock on my bedroom door. I didn't sleep too good that night he stayed over :D :D

And Tim, sorry I'm one of those that used the "home line of credit" to buy my plane. At least I'm still making the payments and didn't walk away from the house like thousands of others have and still are doing. [-X

Re: Cessna 182 Prices

I have a 1959 182B and I bought it for $26000. and it took me three years and about another $12000. to restore it. A lot of it I did myself. I have flown it about 1300 hours in the time I got it going in 1995. I have had it in some pretty rough places and it has been a great plane for me. It is original, not STOL kits added. If you want to see what it can do I have a few videos of my Idaho backcountry flying. you can find them here: www.youtube.com/skybobb .

I flown many hours in a 172 and an equal amount in my '59 straight tail 182.....No comparison to the performance and feel in handling. You won't be dissapointed with a 182!!

Re: Cessna 182 Prices

I bought my '64 182g from a total skumbag in Colorado (KFLY). I really enjoyed owning my 1959 C172. I like the 182, but I don't like the experienced of getting scammed by a dishonest fellow pilot. I accept full responsibility for buying the wrong plane from the wrong guy. I've spent 6 days flying the plane and $9000 working on it.

Having said that, I'd go out and buy a 182 again tomorrow. I'd just be a lot more carefull.

And yes, I think the 182 market is awesome. Buy now if you can.

Re: Cessna 182 Prices

I bought my 182C (trimable tail) in June '11. I wouldn't trade it for anything. PPONK gets 13gph consistantly. And thats with some big tires dangling beneath.
I would make sure you get a fastback. Better looking, and less plastic to replace, inside and out.
