There was some discussion here quite a while back about a Cessna 210 converted to tailwheel gear. I googled it up but can't seem to open the page.
There can't be too many of those out there, but I know where one is-- it's sitting on blocks at the Port Angeles WA airport. I heard about the accident quite some time ago, but this is the first chance I've had to look at the airplane. Looks like N9457X got going sideways pretty good, because the LH gear leg is ripped out of the airplane. And when I say ripped out, I mean right by the roots-- it looks like a bomb went off at the very bottom of the LH forward door post! Very extensive damage.
I'm sure the owner/modifier had his reasons, although I wouldn't personally choose this extensively modified 210 over a 180 or 185. But I will say that the workmanship on this airplane looked to be top-notch. It also had some good/interesting mods- 500x5 XP Mods tailwheel, Atlee-Dodge folders, etc. Also had a pair of fuel gauges and some switches in the RH wing root area- perhaps for aux fuel tanks & transfer pumps? And an experimental placard .
The tail number googles out to an owner in Texas- which might account for the fact that it's still sitting on the ground in Washington. Darn shame for this to happen after all the work involved.
