On the U206 project the flap indicator cable, has twisted braiding on the outside of the plastic cable sleeve. The cable runs from the ceiling, down by the forward cargo door and onwards then towards the panel. The metal braiding is rusty and broken there at the cargo door.

What is the function of this braiding, and how could the broken strands be repaired? The cable inside the plastic sleeve is doing its job just fine.
