Cessna Front seat Locks

After my almost fatal encounter at L25 airstrip several years ago I have these seat locks to keep front seats from ending up in baggage compartment. www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/aeroseatlock.php
I encourage everyone to get and use these. Mine are on outboard side - I move front seat forward after good start ,lock seat -close door and hook up seat belt/shoulder harness as I begin to taxi.

Re: Cessna Front seat Locks

Cessna has a fix that is free and works very well. After two near accidents one with my 182 and
Another with my 170b, I would not fly a 100 series Cessna without one. They were still available this spring just for the asking. The aircraft spruce fix is also good but not quite as handy as the factory fix.

Re: Cessna Front seat Locks

I have not tried that model, but I have used another product called Saf-T-Stop on both front seats since acquiring my Cessna. Now my pilot-side stop has been replaced with the Cessna inertia reel.

Another idea for those of us with early 100-series Cessnas wishing to do front seat upgrades is to choose later seats that have retaining pins in both tracks. When/ if you convert to McFarlane seat rails, you can install seat rails with holes on both tracks. For myself I'd rather keep the seats light and simple, but I still thought it was a clever idea.

p.s. I am getting ready to convert to McFarlane rails myself. I will probably convert my copilot stop to the one you use, because of its camming action. The Saf-T-Stops do the job, but over time they leave a bunch of bolt-tip marks in the seat rail. Also Aerostop makes a version sized specifically for McFarlane rails.

Re: Cessna Front seat Locks

I've had the Saf-T-Stops on both front seats of my airplane--previous owner had put them on there--but my IA insisted on putting a crossbar on the pilot seat that restricted the movement, which made it really inconvenient. Just a few months ago, I had the Cessna "fix", which is a retracting reel similar to a seat belt inertia reel, installed. It's not actually an inertia reel--it is unlocked by pulling up the standard seat unlock lever, which is now connected to both the pin that drops into the rail and to the new reel mechanism with a cable. The other end of the belting is bolted to the floor with a captured bolt after the floor is reinforced. Sounds Rube Goldbergish, but it works just fine, and it's a whole lot more convenient to get in and out.

I don't regularly adjust the passenger seat Saf-T-Stop--I just leave it slightly back of where the crossbar used to be on the pilot seat.

Another area to check on the fully adjustable seats are the rolled pins that keep the reclining action in place. Mine got worn and fell out, and the seat went into full recline just as I was taking the runway. After that experience I used safety wire on all of the rolled pins and started taking the runway with one hand on the throttle, the other hand under the panel holding myself forward in the seat.

Those roll pins are amazingly small for what they need to do. I replaced all of mine a few months ago, and several were broken so that the reclining system didn't work the way it was supposed to. Putting too much pull on the upper seat back could easily take them out.
