Love your attitude, Rob. I feel much the same way. When the price of airplane parts makes me gag, the best cure is to go fly. Then all of a sudden, none of the cost means much--the joy is priceless.
It took awhile to get to Alliance on Monday--what should have been a 1+20 flight became a 2+40 flight. But that was a whole lot better than being in the long slow moving parking lot on all the north bound highways. And coming back, it was slightly better than 1+20, and incredibly much faster than the 10 hours it took some to get from Casper to Cheyenne on I-25, which is normally about 2 1/2 hours--heck, I can bicycle almost that fast!
Yup, there's something special about being able to fly, for sure.

I love my Cessna 172, but after owning a plane for a bit, I think my next bird will be experimental.
Hopefully built by me, as I have taken a great interest in the art of designing and building aircraft.
That said, my 172 will be with me for quite a few years before I get rid of it. Who knows, maybe things will have collapsed by then.
Cessnas DO HAVE a good reputation, though!

SERVICE CEILING -noun - The altitude at which the pilot starts smacking the dash, exclaiming, "CLIMB OL' GIRL CLIMB!"
Rob's post nailed it. Thanks for taking the time to put to words what many of us were thinking.
I feel blessed, lucky and giddy every time I saddle up and watch the earth fall away beneath me.
