If you go to the txtavsupport link toward the bottom of the letter, and register there, you can download the wblle SL includjng inspection instructions.

A long time ago I got an award on this site for the worst spelling. I shall step aside.

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-55-01

You don't have to remove the whole stabilizer, just the back where it hinges needs to be lifted up a little leaving jackscrews intact. I did something similar a long time ago when I replaced the bushings that the aluminum castings hinge on. Really not that hard to do.

Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-55-01

Here is the service letter
https://support.cessna.com/custsupt/contacts/pubs/ourpdf.pdf?as_id=49452

All known issues with these airplanes nothing new. Not sure why Cessna found the need to make a SL over it after all these years.

Unless it becomes an AD, "mandatory" only means mandatory if youre a commercial operation. Doesnt apply to Part 91 ops.

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-55-01

I saw this when it came in the mail last month. I need to replace those bushings at annual (next month) so I plan to have my IA comply with the advisory while we're in there just in case it becomes an AD. Has anyone used the PPonk bushings for the stabilizer? Are they different?

Thanks,
Asa

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-55-01

I am also curious about the PPONK bushings. They are roughly $20 more per bearing than the originals from Mcfarlane. Non-seaplane use, are they worth the extra $140 (if you do all of the tail) extra?

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-55-01

I looked at Pponk's site and all I see for the back end is bearings for the rudder and elevator---nothing about the rear horizonal stab. brackets or bushings.

Sorry, I was speaking about the elevator and rudder bushings, probably outside the scope of this thread.

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-55-01

Since we drifted a little, I think I like the idea of the Ponk bearings that are composite. I also think the McFarlane carb heat box bearings that are some kind of elastomer instead of the needle bearings is a good idea. I need to fix my carb heat box bearings and pretty sure I'll find the needles wore into the shaft making things loose.

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-55-01

Although not compulsory, I would like to disassemble the empennage on my airplane. Primary reason is to remove, clean, inspect, and lubricate the trim jacks, sprockets, and chain. Fully executing this service bulletin is an easy task to take care of while we're at it.

Thanks for posting. I'd heard about it, but this is a good reminder.
