Cessna Seat stops

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Cessna Seat stops

I know there is a thread here somewhere on this, but I cant find it. I'm trying to find out if I missed the bus on the deadline for the backup seat rail stops that Cessna will pay for on my 172. Someone said they will do it if done by May. Is that through May, or is the deadline come and gone on them paying for it?

Re: Cessna Seat stops

It's not over. Contact Cessna or your local Cessna repair station. Parts are free for pilot's side. Here they installed it free as well. You have to pay for pax side.

Re: Cessna Seat stops

Just talked to a Cessna Service Center at KPAE and was informed that this kit is on "hold" while Cessna gets a re-design on the kit. Apparently the current kits aren't performing up to specs. Also told that the deadline for Cessna paying for it is extended. I am on a list to get the revised information when it comes out.

Re: Cessna Seat stops

there is..or was another option...a cessna service kit spellled out in a SB-89-2..it is a secondary seat lock that has a "ratchet like bar " attached to the seat frame and a movable dog attached to the floor....fool proof...no reels. straps, etc.....part numbe is SK 172-???? ...spelled out in SB....it is a simple design with one moving part...I have no idea why cessna screwed around with the reel stuff when they already had the perfect answer....no levers or clamps like the other aftermarket secondary seat stops......

It is my understanding that the new "reel" designed unit releases when you pull up on the same lever that releases the stock pin, thus resleasing the seat with one movement like always. If you have to do two things to release the seat it could have a safety impact at some point in an emergency. :?:

Re: Cessna Seat stops

So how about my Aero Technologies Inc. "Saf-T-Stops"? Do they satisfy the need? I don't like that they chew up the seat rail over time, and you do have to remember to set them, but they seem to do the job satisfactorily. $40/ pair. Link here

Re: Cessna Seat stops

Can the seat stops be installed so that the seat can be pushed back a little more than what I now have in my C180? The passenger seat goes back far enough, but the pilots seat seems short on travel.

A floatplane pilot sometimes has to get in and out of the plane quickly, especially when docking or undocking on a windy day when there is no one around to help. I often wish the pilot's seat would roll back another two or three inches so that I could get my boots through that narrow space between the seat corner and door frame a little easier. The seat rail length is there and I'd like to use more of it.

Re: Cessna Seat stops

Rick,

There is nothing to stop either seat from moving ALL the way into the baggage compartment EXCEPT the little U shaped seat stops, with lock pins that Cessna advocates. These are placed on the seat rails, and pinned in place, basically where you want them. If your seat doesn't move as far aft as the pax seat, look at the rails, and you'll see the little u-shaped deal I'm talking about. Move it where you want it, but be advised that it is there to help prevent your seat going waaaaay far aft.

In seaplanes, with a little motivation (like a dock coming at you, or another airplane) I can assure you that even an old fat guy can get out of a Cessna seat without even touching the seat latch. Full forward seat is no problem.

The new secondary seat stop is essentially a retractable seat belt that attaches to the seat and the floor. When you pull up on the seat release, it realeases the stop on that belt, and let's you slide the seat as far aft as you like.

So far, I like mine.
