Cessna Tail AD

It’s time to get serious about this tail ad. I have an appointment with Beegles in September, but the logistics of getting there and back are looking like a major pain. I got a reference for a guy up in the UP, which is difficult if he can’t do it while I wait. There’s no commercial service up there, as far as I can tell.

I also know of a guy in Pennsylvania and a possible in Arkansas. The best guy close to home doesn’t want to work on Cessnas. Or maybe he just doesn’t want to work with me!

It would be really great to find someone who’s seen the jack screws and trim system before, and who’s located in a place that’s easily accessible from Indianapolis.

Ideas?

Who do you do your annuals with?
it's always easier to have a mechanic on your home airport or at least nearby do your work.
If you run into a big downtime-inducing issue, you can just stick the airplane back in your hangar & wait.

Re: Cessna Tail AD

There is nothing complicated about the Tail AD - any decent mechanic can do it. It’s not just the hockey stick, and there have been a fair amount of people who have found issues when they’ve done the inspection. Some will say pulling the tail apart is not necessary - using a bore scope is all that is needed, I personally don’t subscribe to going that route. At least not for the first one. Take the hit - open it up and go through everything. When the SB came out and it was going through the recommendation for AD phase, I heard a lot about it being an over reaction and I got influenced by that.. I think the tide has turned on that sentiment as more and more folks found problems after doing the inspection, certainly more then most expected. Anywho I’ll step of the soapbox. Back to your original statement - I don’t think you need to hunt down a specialist - any competent mechanic can do it.
