Re: Cessna window latch repair

Im glad people have gotten some use out of this.

For a certified plane like a Cessna, does that procedure fall under a maintenance or other minor upkeep category, or does it require all that crazy official A&P mechanic stuff?

Again, I know it is just a window latch repair, but I am just curious.

I think it could easily be argued that replacing the latch parts are owner preventive maintenance. Its not really one of the listed 32 items but the FAA definition is- b. Preventive Maintenance. Section 1.1, defines preventive maintenance as “simple or
minor preservation operations and the replacement of small standard parts not involving complex
assembly operations.”

I dont think i would put "installed chevy window latch from JC whitney" in my entry. It is obviously not an aviation part with a PMA, TSO or other approval. It would have to be an owner produced part. see AC20-62E.
n. Owner/Operator Produced Part. Parts that were produced by an owner/operator for
installation on their own aircraft (i.e., by a certificated air carrier). An owner/operator is
considered a producer of a part, if the owner participated in controlling the design, manufacture,
or quality of the part. Participating in the design of the part can include supervising the
manufacture of the part or providing the manufacturer with the following: the design data, the
materials with which to make the part, the fabrication processes, assembly methods, or the
quality control (QC) procedures.

How did you participate in producing the part? I provided the quality control and assembly methods. :)

Do you buy that?

If that's good enough for the US military, it's good enough for me.

My IA and I have done some "owner produced parts" in the past, but when I told him about my latch, he just said, "cool!" It is SO much better than the old latch.

Re: Cessna window latch repair

Think (think...) I found a source for a repair kit for this. Bought one of these a couple of years ago for my C172D... should work for you. It was a direct replacement fix w new spring and new pin.
Here's a URL that should work:
https://www.pontiacparts.net/product/19 ... -roll-pin/
