OK, so how hard would it be to change a Canadian registered plane to US registration?

Just a paperwork shuffle, Canadian standards re: regulations and maintenance standards higher the US so basically a simple paper as long as all in order. Now the other way is a real pain field approvals etc. you should have no problems...

Apparently nothing happens until the aircraft is de-registered in Canada. That's the first step. Then essentially an annual, a new N number and go flying. My puzzlement is about the aircraft's legal status between de-registration and re-registration. My I/A told me you have 90 days to get it done.

I did a 701 from Canadian to US registration. Deregister with Transport Canada and then reregister again as US with an N number going on only after the US inspection. But.. if your plane is experimental then consider doing this: It is a very good time in the gap between the deregistration from Canada but BEFORE the US inspection to make any changes you want to the plane. I added a bigger engine and different prop to mine during that time. Being an experimental even without those changes, I would have had to fly off the test hours within my assigned test area after the US inspection in order to meet the requirements for registration as a US experimental. (The Canadian inspection and test flights did not count toward meeting the US requirement.) Otherwise I would then have gone through it all again (test phase) later when I made the engine/prop swap. Better to do the changes before the US inspection and do the test phase just once with the changes in place and be done with it.

Question
You have to be a Canadian to fly a Canadian registered experimental aircraft in the USA and you have to be a US registered pilot to fly a US plane in Canada.
So how do you fly the deregistered Canadian plane to the USA to get it inspected to receive the USA registration and airworthiness?
Especially with having t go through eapis to get here?
Should I have a Canadian pilot fly it down to the USA then get it deregistered?
Thanks GT

Have as much Fun as is Safe, and Keep SMILIN! GT,
Dual citizenship.
Or, take the wings off and trailer it home like I did.
Tundra Joe went through it. I believe it was flown by the Canadian owner to his airport then deregistered.

Well, not going to be able to become a Canadian or get a Canadian license for the trip and sure no reason to pull the wings off of a perfectly good airplane?
Guess will have to have the owner fly his here and I'll have to fly mine there??!!
Thanks GT

I don't believe it's always as cut and dried as this.
certificate of export (inspection required?)- de-registration- import/compliance inspection- reregister in US. The big issue can be the import inspection. It's like a super heavy duty annual, the airplane must meet original specs and/or have all mods/variances/repairs properly documented. I know a guy who imported a Canadian C170 & he said it was a royal pain in the ass. I believe I heard that it might be easier if the airplane was originally a US registration.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
This is a previous us registered experimental coming back south and a current us registered going north.
Canadian Derigister, apply for new registration with N #, then DAR inspection and if all is well, he issues airworthiness.
I think!!??

Start searching the data bank for a catchy N number now. I was browsing through the list and found that an airplane that I had flown in my misspent youth had been deregistered. I always liked the sound of 714FT so I reserved it. Something about that Foxtrot Tango appealed to his old veteran hoofer.
