Re: Checking Fuel on High-Wing

I inherited a little harbor freight folding stepstool when I bought my bird.

It's tall enough for me to reach the top of the wing on my Tripacer. I can use it to dip the tanks, check caps, and pour gas cans in the tanks. it folds down to about 12 x 20 x 8 inches and fits great in the baggage compartment without taking up too much space. Cost about $30 and you can get it for less with a 20% off coupon that Harbor freight send in the mail every month.

Anyone remember the "Step 'N Chek?" I have one that I take along when I'm not topping off and know I'll need dip the tanks. It can be a tricky little devil. Recommended by spouses of orthopedic surgeons everywhere.

Re: Checking Fuel on High-Wing

The originals were just tripods. I think they might have been as much as 20-24" tall when extended. I have one with extendable legs that goes maybe 10 inches higher. It's ok for dipping the tanks. I would not want to balance on it while pouring fuel out of a container. It would be marginal holding a fuel hose.

I'll post a pic when I get down to the hangar.

Here are the pics of the "Step N Chek." It's the deluxe version with extendable legs.

I've used it at minimum height to dip the tanks. I'm 6'3", so it's enough. I'm also 220 lbs., and not inclined to trust those little buttons to hold my weight 26 inches off the ground.

YMMV

Just scored a Fall N Break on Ebay! Probably a great reason they stopped making them.

Step N Check came!
Very lightweight and compact. Will hardly notice it in the baggage compartment. My favorite part about it is the Ahhhhh............

This thing has been pretty solid and is small enough that I haven't had an issue stowing it yet. 6.3lbs.

Looks kinda 'iffy' if used on a grass strip. Or sloping ground. Say, is that cement hangar floor got a little slope to it?

Re: Checking Fuel on High-Wing

I was searching for a compact lightweight step as well and found a used step n check. It’s very handy. I guess I have the deluxe version that extends as well.

Nope on the slope. 3 feet is better if surface uneven and I would feel better about falling on grass. I've been using before almost every flight to confirm it was filled or dip the tanks unless there was a step ladder close. It would be challenging to fill the tanks with it with pump or cans but possible. Highly recommend.
