Cherokee 6 in Dominican Republic

So we’ve rented a house in Las Terenas and apparently it’s a four hour drive from Punta Cana or a 45 minute flight (75 air miles).
Local charter company is offering to fly us in a 6. Me, wife and two kids plus bags is 750. Won’t need a lot of gas but am wondering about w/b.
Who here has experience with this plane and who thinks this is a terrible idea?

The Cherokee 6 is a great load hauler and a fairly robust aircraft. I wouldn't be too worried about it. It has a forward baggage compartment, much like a 207, in front of the firewall. It helps keep the W&B in a favorable location.

That’s only half a load for 6. Those things are awesome. If Piper would have built a high wing Cessna would have bankrupted 40 years ago.

Penn Air had a bunch of these in Dillingham Alaska. I’ve heard pilots say, “if it’ll fit...it’ll fly. That said..altitude density is for most of the year well below sea level.

Dunno whom regulates aviation in Dominican Republic, but I would think (would like to think, anyway) that whoever this charter outfit is, they probably know what's safe in their airplanes and what isn't.
Otherwise, either the authorities or attrition would have shut them down.

Re: Cherokee 6 in Dominican Republic

I’d ‘like’ to think there’s some form of regulation as well.
A few years ago we chartered a 206 to fly us from Playa Del Carmen to Holbox and back. Not sure it had a functioning alternator. Right after take off he killed the master. Same thing on return trip. Of course I asked and his predictable response was “no problema “.

They sent pics of the Cherokee and it appears well maintained w a beautiful panel.
Just thought I’d bounce the idea off the collective brain trust here so thanks a bunch for the feedback.
I’ll post a TR w pics!

Cheers!
