I am thinking of doing the Chicken Strip in March. Her is where it is. 36.806667, -117.781667. Anybody have any info on conditions.

I believe the RAF helps with maintaining that airstrip.

Saline Springs is the name of the closed campground.
I saw something online (I think) from RAF or someone requesting that people stay away from the Chcken Strip,
which is near that campground, until the fire response is finished & things are squared away.

"Incident Details Date & Time: Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Location: Lower Springs area of Saline Valley Warm Springs, near the Chicken Strip (Saline Valley Warm Springs Airfield), located roughly 40 miles from the nearest paved road.
Impact: The fire burned through dead palm fronds across approximately 80 nonnative palm trees and destroyed a shed at the volunteer camp host's site.Casualties & Evacuation: All campers and volunteer hosts evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.
Status & Access: The campground and surrounding area are temporarily closed. Aviation groups like the Recreational Aviation Foundation have asked pilots to avoid flying into the Chicken Strip to allow park personnel and emergency operations room to assess and clear potential hazardous materials and site safety."
