Cinder Cone / Fossil Falls in Inyo County

Does anyone know the history of this place? When did folks first start landing there? Was it ever used for any purpose other than just a lake bed landing destination? Anything else to see other than the hike to fossil falls? Any cool stories? :)

The RAF is looking to put up signs and add this to their list of maintained airstrips and would like to publish a blurb for folks who are new to it - I added a brief description based on my own experience (with help from Dustin aka fiddler and Rick aka pacerpilot), but now is our only chance to get in as much color as we can, so any additional information is welcome!

This is now on RAF's website. For those unfamiliar with the strip and interested in visiting, you can find info about it here: http://theraf.org/airport/cindercone

Hey Kat, I'm not sure if you remember George that came to Goler in the VW camper, but he used to land there in the 50's. He brought it up to Fiddler and I yesterday. I'll ask him next time I see him

Just saw this - that would be great!! I'm working on updating all the RAF-maintained airstrips on their website so any history on this, goler, holland camp, etc would be welcome!
