Citabria constant speed prop

Hello all,
I'm new here but have been lurking for some time, taking in much of the great information shared on this forum. I searched for the following topic and found a couple passing comments regarding the question but am curious to know if anyone has experience with a constant speed prop on a Citabria after making the O-320 A2B engine upgrade? I also can't find STC's for it in the FAA database. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough...I fly my '69 Citabria and '74 C182 off a short unimproved strip on my farm in VA and its about time for the old O-235 in the Citabria to be retired.

Thanks,
Haymaker

Hello Haymaker,

The possible reason you cant find it is because it may already be on the Type Certificate. Just a thought.

As far as I can tell (which might not be much) the only props listed for the 7ECA in the type certificate are fixed pitch. But I'm not a lawyer, so small print certainly isn't my forte.

Look on the 7GCAA Type Certificate. Since you basically turned your 7ECA into a 7GCAA. Its worth a look.

Re: Citabria constant speed prop

I own a 7ECA with an O-320-A2B. Near sea level I use 500' of runway on takeoff whether I'm solo or full gross. You cannot haul it off early but it's always ready at the 500' mark.

Not sure an A2B has the provisions for a constant speed prop.

I emailed MT to see if they had a prop I could use but they said no

Re: Citabria constant speed prop

Good info, thank you. O-320's can definitely take a constant speed prop with the proper crank, just wondering if anyone has bothered to run one.

Out of my backyard at sea level my O-235 (115hp) 7ECA half fuel/solo takes about 600-700ft to get off, it certainly doesn't jump off and the climb is so/so, if there's a tail wind, you're lookin' at the trees at 1500ft. I love flying the Citabria just wish it had a little more juice for my patch of grass. PA-18 here I come.

I know of one Citabria in Alaska with a CS for sure. But if you want a -18 I have one for sale. Haha.

Re: Citabria constant speed prop

Our plane (PA-18) isn’t a Citabria but we have a O-320-B2B with a MT constant speed prop. I really like it. Sorry if a bit off thread.LOL
