Climb prop on C-170

Just finished changing a dm7653 for a dm7651 climb prop on the 170. I posted about it on the 170 forum page and put some pics on my gallery on this site.

Check out the 170 forum for details, but here is the short version.

I like the climb prop. I went from 2200 to 2300 static rpm.
I took about 150 ft off my standard grass takeoff, 2 adults and 3/4 gas. Went from just over 600 ft to just over 450 ft.
Added a nice bit of climb. Overall I think I gained about 15% in takeoff and climb performance but only lost about 5% in top end cruise. Overall the airplane seems to accelerate more quickly, flies less mushy.
I have yet to get over 1000ft agl. Later in the week I will take it up to a 6000 ft msl strip and fly it over 10k msl. Report will follow.[/url]

What engine do you have? I installed an 8042 climb prop on my 145 HP 170B last year, and have been pleased. I should try to quantify the gains, like you, but it has been so long that I forget how the standard prop used to behave.

That is a pretty impressive change in performance!
