Close encounter with drone.

Saw a guy on final standing just before the numbers, he moved very slowly to the right, I moved a bit to the left , this is odd and stupid I thought, yes he was stupid, flying a drone at an airport and on final approach trajectory.

You can see it in the video on the left side, when in slow motion.

Be careful out there, this drone thing will only get worse.

Loved the apparent brisk walk rate of closure with the numbers.

Re: Close encounter with drone.

Yes. At normal camera speed, the trees did not appear to speed up as he got closer. In slow motion on short final, the numbers did not appear to speed up from the start of slow motion until they disappeared below the cowl.

It was a fine apparent brisk walk rate of closure at normal speed and a fine stabilized slow motion but not speeding up rate of closure on short final.

It probably will never become popular. The apparent brisk walk rate of closure approach will always be energy efficient. It will always do the job of slowing down before overflying the numbers at near 1.3 Vso.

Re: Close encounter with drone.

Did you exchange words with him? I would have. Then possibly shoved the drone up his ass.

LOL...

Love the apparent overcranked frame rate and reinterpreted brisk footage.

One time my instructor and I were flying into a private strip and some kid had the nerve to be flying a drone. We exchanged many words over a tour of his awesome property and a nice lunch. Then he put it all on YouTube!! What an ass.

That “kid” also happened to know the owner of the airport and was fully versed on the airport procedures as well as being in direct communication with said instructor......

Haha, smartass!
