Has anyone heard if Big Creek is ever going to rebuild? I really have my doughts and I don't think it would be financially feasible to rebuild.

I have never been into Dixie, but from what I've heard it seems like it would be another note worthy place to meet up with old and new flying friends and have a meal.

Would anyone that's been to or heard about Dixie, Id. like to throw a word or two in?

FWIW: I've only been to Dixie once. I didn't explore the town but it was very close to the airstrip and looked like a great place to poke around. However, the airstrip is not as forgiving as Big Creek. And, it didn't seem to have as much parking space.

We went to Dixie town for breakfast one day when we were at Wilson Bar last October.
It's a nice little place. Has a bed and breakfast that serves food. Real nice owners. Also supposedly has a bit of a store but that was closed so we had to go to Elk City. You can park along the east side of the runway (we had like 5 airplanes with us) just get tight to the hill and look for and old half buried logging cable in the vicinity of the parking area. I think landing north, takeoff south is best.

If you're not scarin' yourself, you're not scarin' the crowd!

I assume you're talking about Dixie Town.. Not Dixie... Been to both although Dixie is just a strip with a ranger station and pretty good fishing.A bunch of us went to Dixie town while we were at the Fly in this summer. Good breakfast not much room to camp in fact no room to camp. Visited my old buddy Curt who has the hangar at Elk City after that and Elk City has a fantastic breakfast at the little cafe just down the airport road and to the left on the main highway. But back to Dixie town.. THe Place is in Pacific time zone and we were there an hour early on Mtn time and didn't know it so they called us back as we were walking back to the planes and opened up early for us. THey even called a waitress in early... I guess the thought of 8 to 10 people leaving was not good business. They were real friendly and service and food was good. We'll go back, at least I will...

I've been in to Dixie for the last 3 years and with the exception of the time zone issue have had good service and food from the outfitter/lodge. Not a replacement for Big Creek but a fun place to go.
