Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

So, I need to get my Commercial.... And life seems to make it pretty tough to get any effective studying done. So I'm planning to attend a weekend course and just knock it out. I think that's an effective means to reach the finish line for me.

In the process of researching the weekend seminars I have learned a few things. And I've got a sweet deal cooked up for a somewhat private seminar, focused only on the commercial exam ( rather than combined with the Private students like most ). So I'm looking for at least two people that want/need to get the commercial written done. If I can find two or more people, we can have a weekend seminar in Reno within the next month or so. Taught by the best there is. Cost will be the same as any other weekend class. Dates are flexible. This is just the written, not the flying.....

If that is of any interest to any of you, or you know someone, please get in touch with me. I need to get this done either way, I just would rather go to Reno and have a small class focused on what I need.

PM me or text or call. four35-7three0-one87two

Zane, If I broke a rule about advertising, please forgive me........

If I were you... I wouldn't wast any $$$ on a "private" written course. Just sign up with Shepard AIr for $30. Study for a week then take the exam. Many here owe high scores thanks to Shepard.

Good luck either way...

Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

Big +1 for the Sheppard Air prepware,
http://www.sheppardair.com
Did both my commercial and ATP that way. Maybe 10 hours study and I was ready to go, easy money.

I hate to say it but after 7 FAA written exams I've come to the conclusion that it's more about just passing and moving on. These FAA question banks seem to be an exercise in test taking more than the actual knowledge one should have.

I used Dauntless for both airplane and helicopter ATP. No classes or seminars. Passed on first try.

Hailstorm,

The reason for almost zero educational value is the FAA fascination with and retention of most missed items. Real educators throw most missed items out because they are obviously poorly written.

Re: Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

If it's Don's class, it didn't work for me on my instrument. It didn't hurt, but I wasn't ready at the end of the weekend. I was bummed because I was counting on it since I'd passed my private that way.

I realize that wasn't the input you asked for, but I wish someone would have warned me off.
I came home and slogged through the king course for 2 weeks in the evening and pulled a 90 something.

Another vote for Sheppard Air. Unfortunately, the name of the FAA game is memorizing answers...

Re: Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

Buy the current Gliem commercial test book ( it only has the questions and answers), go through and read every question then using the answer packet, Highlight marker only the correct answers. Then reread and memorize the answers to the questions. Your score means diddly to the FAA as long as you pass.

With using that test book, you can easily take it with you, during breaks at work, or during TV commercials whip it out and go through it. Dog ear where you left off, and go through the book as many times as you can handle. Guarantee in one week you'll be ready to take test if you follow through.

AKJurnee has the key answer to ANY FAA exam... contact flying was right... there is no educational value to these tests. Just take them and pass them! Get on with flying!

Re: Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

I took dons class two deferent times , insterment then commercial . He does a great job, lots of pics and video clips, very well done and he knows the material, he owns and flys a twin I think. For me it was about wether to to do home study or class. Home study is always problematic to set the required time aside and do it each night , for me it was best just take a weekend and the wife go to Reno , give wife money to entertain herself, and bucke down get it done. No regrets passed both, but I think u need some basic prep knowledge befor you get there and he polishes what u have, then go take the test done deal. Get her done!

Buy the Shepard air course, look at it. If you do it the way they say to, you will find no reason to spend a dime more. At least 80% of folks I talk to used it for the atp written...it is that good.

Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

I would second what Headoutoplane stated. I studied the Gleim and ASA books for weeks for my CFI written and did ok. I then found out about Sheppard Air. I studied for three days for my CFII written and and passed it with 100%. The test only took 12 minutes. There methodology works, and they have the most current database. You won't be disappointed.

Sheppard Air! I have used them for 5 written tests and I didn't have to spend anymore than 6 hours studying for any test. I just wish they had a course for the A&P written's....

Re: Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

When I did my commercial, and even instrument written, I found that the bast way to prepare for the tests is a Gleim test prep course or something similar that allows you to study just questions and answers. Practical Knowledge DOES NOT mean you will do good on an FAA written.

I poured over the questions and answers on Gleim for a day or so, and ended up getting a 90 something on the commercial. YMMV

Well, that's not totally true. You are required to be re-tested in the subject areas which you missed questions in during your oral exam, as part of the practical test.

If your examiner is doing his/her job, the oral will be a good bit shorter and easier if you ace the written.

Re: Commercial Written Exam, anyone???

Thanks for all the replies. I have been studying with a Dauntless app for a while and with what y'all are telling me I think I'll attack it without doing the weekend seminar route. Thanks again.
